Alumni Reunion Weekend Moves to June

We have been delighted that Alumni Reunion Weekend programming and attendance has grown substantially in recent years. But the event’s success brings some challenges. We are outgrowing space on campus and stretching resources thin, while Salem is running out of suitable and affordable lodging for weekend guests — a key reason that we made the move to a time of the year outside the academic calendar. For these reasons and more, we are excited to announce the move of Alumni Reunion Weekend to June, beginning in 2018.

Serious consideration, paired with the review of attendee and non-attendee feedback from previous weekends, helped guide the decision to change the date of the event.

The new schedule offers significant advantages, such as:

  • More offerings for attendees, including pre-weekend alumni travel programs with faculty, lectures from notable alumni and faculty, joint student and faculty presentations, and meaningful opportunities to connect with your classmates and your alma mater;
  • New events such as the Saturday Night Experience — featuring casino tables, DJ and dance floor, casual lounge spaces, vintage arcade games, food, beverages and more — that will continue under the Bearcat Tent until midnight;
  • An opportunity to connect with some of Willamette’s brightest and most dedicated students — of whom nearly 300 remain on campus in summer to conduct research, participate in internships or work at conferences;
  • University services and facilities — including some of the best spaces on campus — dedicated to alumni, so the weekend doesn’t displace students and faculty from their learning locations — something that has become a larger challenge as Weekend attendance has grown in recent years;
  • Expanded and improved food service, allowing all classes to hold a reunion dinner on campus instead of having to meet at local restaurants with little connection to Willamette;
  • The ability to stay in a Willamette residence hall — a nostalgic, convenient and affordable lodging option that allows you to gather informally with your friends and classmates, easily get ready for events and visit late into the night;
  • The establishment of an official annual Homecoming Weekend in October dedicated to celebrating our Bearcats on and off the field, including an annual Hall of Fame ceremony and celebration, football game, family-friendly tailgate and the ability to audit classes.

We appreciate that changing the timing of a long-standing, popular event like Alumni Reunion Weekend can be disconcerting. Please be assured that our decision wasn’t made lightly and that our aim is to give you the best possible Alumni Reunion Weekend.

If you’d like to know more about these changes, we invite you to visit our FAQ web page or email us at We welcome your feedback and are eager to address any concerns.

We hope you will hold the dates for your upcoming reunion and plan to join us (even if you won't be celebrating a reunion in 2018 or 2019)! We will partner with your lead Alumni Reunion Weekend volunteers to make the event a wonderful success. If you’d like to get involved, please let us know. We look forward to celebrating the weekend with you.
